Massage therapy

works to promote healing and enhance a person's overall well-being. The massage treatment aims to relax the body. By using gentle and slow massage movements, the soft tissues and muscles in the body are gently manipulated. This can lead to improvement of blood flow in the body, beneficial for circulation. The benefits of massage therapy have been shown to have multiple health benefits. Massage therapy has the ability to decrease anxiety, allowing the person to totally relax in body and mind. For some people, the lack of human touch or contact can create feelings of loneliness and so receiving a massage has the potential to help both physically and emotionally.

The areas of the body treated in a treatment session are commonly: hands and arms, feet and legs or neck and shoulders. For a massage, you will only need to remove clothing for the area being treated as oils or creams may be used. Towels or warm blankets are used for modesty and comfort. The massage can be adapted to treat where it is comfortable and convenient.

Reiki

is a Japanese healing technique which translates as: Rei - Universal, Ki - Life Force Energy. It is thought, when we are healthy & strong in mind, body & spirit we are vibrant with this energy and can recover more easily from imbalances, injury & illness. Stress, fatigue and negative emotions can deplete this supply by causing energy blocks, making it harder for the body to heal itself.

Practitioners transmit Reiki using their hands as a channel, often using their intuition to guide them where healing is needed. Reiki practitioners have been attuned to be able to channel this energy. Reiki works on all levels: physical, emotional, mental & spiritual. Reiki is thought to activate the body's natural ability to heal itself by clearing energy blocks and reinstating a sense of balance. During a Reiki treatment session, the person receiving the treatment will lay on a treatment couch or lay/sit on chair fully clothed. The practitioner's hands are placed non intrusively on or off the body during the treatment. Reiki is a suitable treatment for anyone who doesn't want to experience any touch or pressure due to pain or discomfort they may be experiencing.

Reiki is a recognised healing therapy, practiced all over the world. The NHS and major hospitals worldwide employ Reiki practitioners and use volunteers to treat patients.

New treatment available -
Orthopedic Reflexology

Orthopedic Reflexology is based on the teachings of Hippocrates and Galen's. Translating as "Ortho" - to stand, "Pedis" - feet, or to bind and stand.

After an assessment of the foot's tissues and reflex areas, the feet are treated by using rubbing techniques (Antrapis), massage and mobilising the joints, using the correct amount of pressure and time.  Foot conditions can be treated to alleviate symptoms, such as:
Bunions, hammer toes and plantar fasciitis.

Laura attended and qualified in her training with Spiros Dimitrakoulas, the founder of Orthopedic Reflexology. The training is an in depth course, teaching anatomy of the feet, looking at the skeletal structure, muscle layers, connective tissue, nerves and tendons.

This practice is a welcome addition to Laura's existing treatments, enabling her to treat her patients in a holistic manner. Treatments can be carried out on the couch,  reclining chair or in a suitable armchair with footstool.

Spiros Dimitrakoulas

Greece's leading reflexologist and founder of Orthopedic Reflexology.
